Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Jackson Dudley

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am providing this letter of recommendation in support of Jackson Dudley’s scholarship application.

I am the Executive Director of Real LIFE Foundation, a Philippine NGO which provides high school and university scholarships for the poor, feeding programs for malnourished children, as well as community assistance such as free medical & dental clinics in Manila and 7 other regions of the Philippines.

Jackson spent ten days with my NGO in Manila last summer during which time he also participated in Real LIFE Foundation’s inaugural “Helping Others Tour.” I was very impressed with Jackson’s positive and outgoing nature, and his ability to make friends with tour participants who were both older and younger than him and from other parts of the world – including Singapore, New Zealand, Australia and the United States. Although it was his first time to travel on his own and first time to travel outside of North America, he was not fazed when his plane got diverted to another island due to an incoming typhoon, and easily adapted to the different culture and climate.

Jackson was a very active and involved participant in our feeding program for malnourished children (ages 3-12) and volunteered to assist one of our dentists in our medical clinic for the poor. He also volunteered for a manual labour assignment during our day building rural homes with Habitat for Humanity Philippines. Despite his age, Jackson showed genuine concern for the impoverished and marginalized people we assist, and was happy to befriend and spend time with other youths from the squatter areas our NGO serves in Metro Manila. I was pleased to learn that he has kept in touch with several of the people he met on the tour –- both Filipino scholars our NGO supports as well as other tour participants from other parts of the world.

Overall, I found Jackson to be a young man of very good character who possesses considerable leadership skills, a compassionate nature, and the ability to get along with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and ages. As such, I would recommend him with no reservations.

To Whom This May Concern:

My name is Jay Kelly and I have known Jackson Dudley for several years. I first met him in the hockey arenas of Edmonton 10 years ago and for the past 5 years I have coached him in soccer. I was always pleased when Jackson decided to play again with our soccer team and not only because of his athletic ability. Jackson always leads the way with his work ethic and the manner in which he conducts himself on the field and amongst his piers.

Jackson is a polite and respectful young man. In all my years I can honestly say he has never been disrespectful towards his coaches or his teammates, which unfortunately is not the case for all. A team player, Jackson is the first to encourage fellow teammates and when he finds the back of the net, which happens often, it is celebrated with dignity.

I have watched Jackson evolve from a youngster to the man he has become today. It is sometimes easier to spot the ones that you know will succeed in their journey through life and Jackson is no exception.
